Black Hills
« on: August 07, 2026, 04:58:39 pm »

Cyd and another friend flew out here for a week in the Black Hills. As I was about to get in my car and go to the airport, I found EZ had poked his leg through a cattle panel and pulled it down and had been laying there for hours. I had to get a guy to help get him out of the panel. He just lay there for a few minutes then got up and limped to the water tank.

We cold hosed him and gave him Bute. The next morning he was stiff but much better. We decided to load him and take him anyway. He actually came off the trailer better than when he went on.
We gave Bute and rested overnight. This morning he seemed fine, so we went on a short ride. He was fine and Cyd had a good time.

Friends of mine are in Medora right now.  They rode part of the Mah something trail already.

Thank goodness EZ was not badly hurt.  It looks like he simply waited for you to find him instead of fighting the fence until he couldn't fight any more.  They get into the darndest predicaments and the worst times don't they!

Bar X is where I stay to ride the North Dakota badlands. And riding into Medora for a restaurant or ice cream is a great thing to do.

Glad EZ is ok and you are able to enjoy your trip.  They do find so many ways to scare us don't they?

EZ made a a great recovery and we’ve logged @ 25 miles. That’s actually pretty good for us “mature” gals, especially myself. I’d pretty much resigned myself to a Black Hills vacation with a good book. I’m scheduled for a hip replacement early November and had not been able to ride this year. However, my orthopedic surgeon suggested I take a 6 day steroid pack so I could do whatever I want. It’s worked magnificently and I’ve been able to ride without much pain.
