Problems w/Scootboots?
« on: October 02, 2023, 05:43:04 pm »

Feedback from other Scootboot owners for solution or are they not best choice?

Very rough rocky hilly ground. First day, regular straps, Speedy lost one back boot. Luckily someone found it. Was in a small muddy spot. So we put the mud straps on. No more losses.

Last day, very narrow eroded rocky trail that caused horses to walk at angles. Moonshine twisted a back boot. We caught, corrected. No more trouble. But back at camp we found one front boot on Moonshine, one back boot on Speedy had   cut some pretty deep chuncks of flesh around coronary band. Seemed to be from edges of boots at corners of heels.and side of hoof right above.coronary band.. Is this typical of boots or are there better ones? Are scoot boots not that good? Any answer to protect horses. Gators? What?

My first hunch is the boots are too big. Scoots typically do not move once they’re on. The only time we ever lost one was when Rob put Lacey’s boots on Halle by mistake. We realized the mistake before we set out but Rob decided to leave them on, thinking they might be ok.  Sure enough, one came off in the first mud hole. Our horses have never gotten any kind of rubs from Scoots.
