Be interested to see papers.

No papers. The sire isn't registered.

Well, you don’t ride papers, Carol! We won’t be breeding her. So, it isn’t important to us to pay more for a registered horse! To each their own.

Amen to "can't ride papers"!  She looks like she's being introduced to trails at the perfect age and in perfect way!  Will be fun to watch her as she matures!  Hope you'll keep us posted.

That is a big deal to me. I don’t think people should be breeding stallions , that. don’t have papers

Obviously not everybody agrees w/ you....  Not your horse/not your problem....  Bloodlines are NOT everything, and this filly is getting an excellent introduction to life as a trail horse.

It’s just like people sell. Grade dogs and stuff. Just because the animal is intact , doesn’t mean it should reproduce.

I know that there are very good and reputable breeders out there. But in my part of the world I have seen a lot more people breeding because of some bloodline on the paper than the quality of the horse involved. I would much rather see people breeding quality horses for specific characteristics and not worrying about papers.  I am actually far more interested in the dam. It sounds to me that she is standardbred/trottingbred. And a for a whole lot of reasons I think that’s an excellent horse. It sounds to me like these people were breeding specifically for a trail horse, and I think they got a good one.

Unlike the two weanlings the local university bought from a big sale by a big quarter horse breeder, locally, who is stallion had such a great papers. But they live near me and I knew that the horse was a jerk had never even been halter trained because he was such a jerk, and both weanlings were euthanized by the time they were two because they were so dangerous to work with.

I agree on the dam side being most important. That’s why when I was breeding Anglo Arabs , o had a line waiting on foals.

And we all know how circumstances change. As far as keeping horses forever what not.

We bred our mare even though she wasn't registered because she was an awesome mare. She had two beautiful babies and our vet was very impressed with them. When we looked at Ginger I rode two horses that day. One  was a registered twh mare and one was Ginger. They were priced the same and I picked Ginger. I've never regretted it. I only regret selling her. I'm glad I still have Sunny.

Carol, I'll bite my tongue and tell you that the breeder is breeding specifically for a trail horse. We bought from him because we have seen a 3-yr old full brother (same sire and dam) and a full sister and half sister out of this stud and mare. In addition, I really like the way this gentleman handles horses and he is going to break Korbel to ride when the time is right. His horses have been excellent trail mounts. So, it's not like we jumped on the first opportunity to buy a cheap, unregistered weanling!

Yeah, I am involved in dog rescue and do not like or much tolerate backyard breeders, folks in it for a quick buck and without any responsibility after the sale. That is truly despicable. I do not equate what my friend is doing with backyard dog breeding. I understand your strong feelings on the overpopulation of horses. I don't disagree with not liking indiscriminate breeding. What I do take exception to is you jumping to conclusions without knowing what you are talking about!

Not disputing that she seems well gaited already and will prolly make a dandy trail Mount. We all have different thoughts of how stuff should be done.

I enjoyed that video, watching her say, "Nope, not doing this", and then transitioning to, "Well, this actually looks interesting and maybe I'd better explore."  :D

Yes, we all have opinions and experiences that shape those opinions.  With regard to backyard dogs, the absolute best dog I ever owned came from a backyard breeder.  Best and healthiest.  She bonded to me right away, was housebroken in less than 2 weeks, stayed by my side and never needed a leash, stayed near the house and never wandered off (until she became blind, couldn't hear and started cognitive decline.)  Her groomer always told me how exceptional she was but I just thought all Shelties were like her.  Had to put her down a week before she turned 17 because she started having seizures. After a while I bought another sheltie, this time from a show breeder.  While she is sweet and loving, she's crazy..only cares about chasing cars.  One day she got loose, ran to the road and played Chicken with the oncoming cars.  Then ran over a plowed field quite a distance to the creek which was the only thing that stopped her.  She didn't know what to do about the stream which is how I was able to catch up to her.

She's now 10. Runs in circles again and again and barks over every little noise.  My file at the vet is over a half inch thick with all the visits concerning her health issues, thyroid, neurological spine problem, skin issues, allergies, episioplasty (yeah, look it up cuz I'm not explaining that one on here).  I have to buy special non-allergic food from Chewy and also include in that order:  Apoquel and Proin and malaket every 2 months.  My bill is just over $200 each time. And still, I never know when her hair will just start falling out in clumps, leaving behind sores and flakes.  This has caused me so much anguish due to always having vet visits/bills but never getting her healthy that I am firmly resolved to be done with dog ownership after my current 2 pass on.
