Korbel’s First Trail
« on: September 29, 2021, 07:41:57 pm »

Korbel is Loretta’s 6-month old filly. Sire is a TWH. Dam is 1/2 standardbred and 1/2 American Racing Pony. We bought her as a weanling. Here she is being ponied on a trail for the very first time.

Such cuteness!

And very interesting breeding.  American racing pony. Is this the equivalent of the trottingbred?  The under 14 hand harness racing pony?   So basically a Tennessee Walker crossed with a small standardbred.  I can see that being a very good cross.

I am really unfamiliar with the American Racing Pony breed. But, Korbel's dam is about 14 hands. We have seen a full sister and a full brother to Korbel. They are very well gaited and well put together horses. The sire is just under 16 hands. It will be interesting to see how Korbel develops.

I finally got this watched. Vimeo doesn't always work well for me.

I'm also intrigued by her breeding. It's obvious that she's very well gaited. Pretty lil thing, too!

She left like a worried baby and came back like an old pro!

I’m not young enough any more to buy a weanling and raise and break. It would be 2 1/2 - 3 years until it can be ridden.

That is very true! In the meantime, raising her will give us some goals and something very interesting to do. If it turns out to be too much or we can’t ride for some reason, I doubt it would be too difficult to sell her. But, I sure hope we can see this project through!

I’ve raised and broke a bunch. I have given that up to. Plus I don’t have anyone to ride with.

Finally made time to watch the vid!  Loved watching her figure out "water"!  In this part of the country, that can be a really challenging piece for a young horse, because free flowing water obstacles are few & far between in the desert southwest!  Nice start for this baby!

Has she already got shoes on? Sunny was so tenderfooted at Shawnee that David could only ride the first day there.

The sire's name is Champagne Ice. All of his offspring are named after different champagnes! No, she does not have shoes. Her feet are just naturally very tough right now. I have only been rasping them a bit now and then.
