New horse
« on: February 22, 2021, 03:41:23 pm »

Sorry, no pictures yet. She isn’t home yet. I bought a 17 year old Rocky Mountain mare. She has been mostly a brood mare for the last several years so will be going for a tune up when she gets here. She is much narrower then Shiloh, so I will be needing a new saddle. Didn’t like the Crestridge that I tried when I had Shiloh and I don’t want a treeless.  I had been riding Shiloh in a Natural Horseman Carry Me and I really liked it, but new ones are pretty pricey and used are hard to find. Any suggestions- she is very narrow and fine boned. Saddle must be lightweight because I am a weenie😉 I don’t really like a horn or western fenders- yes, I’m pretty picky- that will probably be a problem. I really don’t want to spend more then 1500-1700.  Might go a little more if perfect for me. Thanks

Cograts on the new horse !!  I really like my wintec stock pro.... light enough, changeable gullet, light.... You don't like treeless but I love my Trekker with panels.... so adjustable for horse and rider.    I have a Evolutionary flex panel saddle I'll be selling in the spring but it's above that budget.

The Wintec is one of the hat I have been looking at. What kind of pad do you use with it?

I Also suggest an Australian saddle, and the WinTec pro stock would be a good choice. I own two of them and find them very comfortable. You can change the guts out yourself but you might want to find a dealer near you and have them do it for you. You can buy a used one and the gullets should be around $30. It won’t fit every horse but it will fit 75 or 80% of them.

I also have a long reach endurance which is an endurance style of an Australian saddle. But it is a fixed tree and so it would need to fit your horse. If she is narrow, the one Claudia used last year for Hobbs might work. That is the medium tree and a 90° angle at the shoulder

I'll have to look at my pad - damned if I can remember the name of it...  I have ridden with a midnight pad but use this other one mostly.  I'll look at it tomorrow  :-)

Take a look at Allegany Mountain Trail Saddlery. Their  model Survivor weights about 19/20 pounds. English rigging, no horn. I believe Staci can put English leathers on which would keep weight down. Anyway it is just another option.

Congrats on your new horse. I can't contribute to saddle discussion since our narrow horse has a western saddle. We use a Cordura Big Horn on Gabe but we do have a nice Equipedic saddle pad that fits him really well and comes with shims you can add or subtract. It molded to his shape.

Congratulations on the new RMH! I used a Bighorn Cordura on a previous horse that was somewhat narrow. He had a shark fin wither.

I do have pictures, but if I recall, it was always difficult for me to actually post a picture on here.
I did buy a Wintec ProbStock saddle. But now I need to know what kind of pad to use for it. It has long flaps and not sure what would look best. Suggestions?
I’ll look at picture posting directions.
Thanks

http://www.equipedic.com/

This pad works well on our big, rangy gelding. It comes with several shims for the pockets.
