UV protectant face masks
« on: June 30, 2020, 09:58:42 am »

I really don’t have time to do enough research on this right now. But if any of you have come across a really good UV protectant facemask please tell me about it or post a link. It would help me immensely with Carmel.

I wish I could remember what we bought for Gabriel. I'll look and see if I can find it.

We bought a Cashel Crusader Long Nose before we had Gabe's eye removed. It did seem to help with light sensitivity. I looked at some pricier ones but this one seemed to work well.

I really like the Absorbine Ultra Shield fly masks.  There is quite a bit of extra room around the jaw but they stay securely on.  I've always used the Cashel's but as my horse ages, (he is now 23), his uveitis flares up more often.  He is extremely sensitive to flies as well.  They claim 80% uv protection.  The masks I bought are black and remind me of the quiet rides.  I believe his eyesight is changing as he ages, and this mask seems easier (at least for me) to see through.  Fit wise I liked the Cashel's better, but for visibility I love the Absorbines.  I have both the ears and non ears as they only had the two when I bought them a few months ago.  The horse with the eye issue wears the ears, the other horse wears non ears.  The mask with ears seems to be dislodged more often, but this horse has no ear hair, hence the  mask with ears.
