Wanna Hear From Featherlite Owners
« on: April 29, 2020, 04:19:01 am »

Looking to replace our second-hand steel 3 horse slant bumper.pull. Soooooo very heavy! Looking at aluminum Featherlite, new, to avoid previous problems. Break drums literally fell apart on this one, of course, just as we really needed the trailer. Almost caused us a wreck. Coming back from vet.

Featherlite owners, are you happy, why or why not? Any other stellar recommendations on aluminum trailers?

Thanks.

Not a Featherlite owner, but have had very good service from 4-Star and Hart trailers.

I've had several aluminum trailers, some with steel frame and aluminum skin, and some all aluminum. My Excess gn was terrible...it leaked everywhere a trailer can leak...around the windows, door, under the slant wall...yuck, horse pee in the lq. I loved both of my Sundowner trailers...one lq gooseneck and one bumper pull. Those were older Sundowners and were steel frame with aluminum skin. I think the newer ones are all aluminum, I can't speak to their quality. I do know they're expensive and you have to pay extra for things that other brands include as standard equipment. Now I have a Lakoda gooseneck lq and I love it. It's all aluminum and may be my favorite trailer ever. I also have a little bumper pull. It's a Shadow and all aluminum. I like it but the one problem I'm having is the locks on the doors don't work. I can lock the doors if the trailer is parked on my concrete slab in my barn but if I have to park on uneven ground I can't lock the doors. I think maybe the trailer flexes just enough that the locks don't line up. Other than that I'm happy with it and really like the design.
One thing I really like about aluminum trailers is they tend to be cooler than steel and in Texas that's a big deal. My Lakoda is actually insulated in the horse compartment which helps keep it even cooler.
