Taking Care of Wool Felt Saddle Pad
« on: March 09, 2020, 07:25:33 pm »

I received my new saddle pad today. Looking forward to giving it a try. So, how do you best take care of this type of pad? I imagine this would take quite some time to dry if sprayed off. Thoughts?

I flip mine "inside out" to dry and store between rides. If it's wet and conditions are right, I'll lay it in the sun to dry. Unless your horses is always clean when you ride, the pad is going to get sweaty-mucky at times. Let it dry, then use a stiff brush on it later. I have a dog slicker brush that I use occasionally to removed dirt and hair. A metal curry works well, too. I do sometimes take a hose to it - just plan a couple days drying time. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how gross a felt pad can get and clean up decently afterward.

Thank you! Doesn't sound too intimidating. I'm looking forward to using the new pad soon!
