I am also a big fan of alpaca, mohair or alpaca/mohair blend.  The neoprene cinches rubbed holes in Strider.

Well, I went out and measured Mercy according to the equipedic site by myself (no easy feat) and looks like a possible 28" cinch. So I will double check that when someone is here to help me.

M - in the picture you have of Mercy in this thread do you think the girth is right on that vein?

My horses range from 15-16'hands . I use a 22 and. 24 inch girth. With different saddles. I don't use a sheepskin or fake sheepskin because it hold water and also attracts burrs, ect.
On the momma I do use mohair, because she is very sensitive, and white.

Possibly......I don't remember if that was a 32" or a 34".....

If I were to guess I would say yes it is. I looked at Kysa's picture and according to where that vein is....yes, don't you think.

Same day and time I took this.

Hmmm.....more food for thought. Mercy is 14h maybe 14.1 and I have here in a 32 I think. She is built like a 55 gallon drum.

I am really digging the alpaca/mohair cinch I seen. But I am leary at ordering a 28 until I get someone to help measure.

Yes that cinch is too long.  Savanna is 14.2, very stocky, and a titch fat.  She takes a 28.

Mercy is stocky too. So I am probably good with a 28?  :)

What about this then?

Melissa,
I bought a mohair girth a couple (?) years ago from someone on this board.  I have used it on Black, Lady and Ebony.  They liked it and went nicely in it - no rubs, no galls.  Haven't tried an alpaca anything, but I got to get up close and personal with a live alpaca a care facility two years ago when my FIL was recuperating from a hip replacement.  Really got my fingers into the alpaca's fur...the hair was VERRRY soft.  The alpaca was very friendly and well-behaved.  I don't think you could go wrong with either.

I liked it especially with my treeless Ansur Western saddle, because the mohair seemed to keep the saddle in place...no turning while mounting.

Just a suggestion--measure before you order, unless you're confident that she'll be losing weight, just in case the 28 is too short.  And it really does take two people to get an accurate measurement.
Edited cuz I obviously can't spell when I'm in a hurry////

Just measured with husband. Came out to about a 24 which I tried before and way too short. Ends up being on a bad area. When I measures alone I was 28 . David had a great idea. Storm takes a 28 so I'm going out there and putting the 28 on her and taking a pic. I've got every size. The 24 was used on my Watson with the dropped rigging. Now I have western. So to be continued.......

Joann I am really leaning toward the alpaca/mohair.

Went out and tried Storm's cinch. He uses a 28". These first 3 are the offside on the last hole.

Opinions? Thoughts? Maybe I should look at a 26?

Then I wanted to even it out so did a hole up on the billet.

The 28 looks much much better.  Just make certain that the girth is centered.  Sometimes you have to be creative with the off billet, but it needs to be centered over the breastbone, and come up the same distance on both sides.
