Sally sneaked on me.  I was not expecting her foal for a week yet, maybe two,  so I had not separated her.  I checked her last night and she had bagged up a bit more but no sign of waxing.  I checked her lunchtime today and there was a new arrival! 

Poor Sally is the bottom of the pick order big time.  Her sister (Donna, foaled 7 months ago) had stolen it off her, was nursing it and looking very pleased with herself.  Poor mum still had wax and I dont think had had a chance to nurse it before her sister stole it.  When we led Donna away, the gelding took it instead.  Poor new mum was not happy at all. 

Mum and Baby are in a yard together and Sally is looking much happier.  The baby is fairly small and thin but is drinking lots and running about so I hope all is well.  The foal is a filly and is a black grey.  She has goggles and lots of flecking already. 

I am hopeless with names, really really bad, any ideas? Online lists of names? A theme to choose baby names?

You know when I said I was really really bad at names, well I really did mean that because the new foals big sister is now 7 months old and does not have a name.  I need to name BOTH of them. 

This pic is Donnas foal by the same stallion as the new foal.  He is homozygous grey we think (he has sired 6 foals, all grey). 

Donnas filly is a bay grey.  She is like mum and likes to be the centre of attention. 

Again, suggestions, online lists of nice horse names for fillys, or even perhaps a name theme (like music or something)

 since their mamas are Donna and Sally, maybe you should stick with the "human name" theme.  Maybe like Margaret and Tara or whatever your favorite human names are. I kind of like Krystal.. or maybe some of the cool African American names like Kyesha or Makayla.

Some combo from sire's name & human names?  Since the dams have "people" names?

I like Melody as it is both a people name and musical.  Lyric is very pretty also!  Enjoy
 your babies!

I'm bad with names too.....if the older foal will be grey....how about 'Misty'.....she kinda looks chocolate on my screen though.

Donna's  Misty Dancer, or Donna's Dancing in the Mist, call her Misty OR Dancer; for the older one, Donna's Sugar Britches, call her Sugar.

I took your suggestion and also decided that I needed inspiration so I went with a music theme and I will give each horse a song, that means I can get name ideas from music, and look up iTunes for ideas.

I decided to use the locality as a prefix for the names of horses I breed but since most horses probably wont be registered it wont be a registered stud prefix so this does not mean much. 

Donnas foal by Michaels Kiandra Blue is Misty Blue, with the theme song of Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore, home name Misty.

Sally's foal by Michaels Kiandra Blue is a real sweetie like her mum so she is Sugar Baby, with Sugar Baby Love by the Rubettes for her song, so Sugar, which suits her.
