Question about Registration Papers
« on: August 17, 2018, 07:46:48 am »

When I look at my gelding's sire and dam's papers, I notice that in the linage part, the registration numbers have letters after them. What do those mean? https://i.imgur.com/REhGfWa.jpg for reference.

It is their color. His daddy was a Palomino bred to a buckskin, probably a cremello (double cream) So your guy has a buckskin base, He is  a buckskin  (black to bay agouti, diluted with cream) not sure where the  Sabino came from.   His dam was black, but not double black because her dam was chestnut.   http://www.walkerswest.com/TWHBEAColorCodes.htm

I see the SO for Sabino back a few generations on the dam's side. Sabino is a funny thing, it sometimes shows up as minimal stockings with an uneven top and a little white under the chin, then their offspring can go all out like your guy.  I have a Silver Buckskin Sabino, but he just has the jagged socks and a little under the chin with two belly spots. Creme dilutes red and Silver dilutes black .. If you want to shoot me I will send you directions to my house :-) You wouldn't be the first.

Ohhhh, thanks! That's actually really interesting - I would have never guessed color but I'm so surprised to see his sire's parents were palomino and buckskin! And he has champagne on his dam's side too... wow, I wonder if he has the cream gene now lol

Without testing, I would guess Nelda is right.  A buckskin with a more grey cast to the body hair.
That means
Black base coat with
Agouti plus
one Creme gene

There is something weird about that Champagne.  Since it is always dominant. Either Moonglows Crystal was really a Palomino or Dandy Copy was really an amber Champagne and not a buckskin.  Cream on bay makes buckskin.. champagne on bay makes an amber champagne. KC's horse ZU is an amber champagne and my Happy is a silver buckskin, but they are similar colored (and both impossible clowns, not sure if that goes with the color LOL)
