Which horse is best suited for my fiance to ride?
« on: June 12, 2018, 10:42:42 am »

The original idea was to find a new horse. If it was larger than Trace, John would ride the new one. If it was smaller, than I would ride the new one and he would ride Trace. The horse that we found was smaller (in height), so she became mine. Now I'm not so sure that Trace is the best one suited for John. Here are the details:
John is a little over 6ft, and about 190lbs
His saddle is about 20lbs
Trace is a little over 15hh, about 1000 lbs and very narrow/slender build
Kacey is 14.2hh, a little over 1000 lbs and more stocky

John rode Kacey yesterday for the first time and she was fine. She is much more stubborn than Trace, but just as calm/lazy. Here are pics and videos of both. Please no harsh opinions about size or his ability, he is a true beginner and I would trust both of these horses with anyone.

Both of these horses should be able to carry John, and especially since he is not doing anything like jumping.  John should ride the horse he feels most comfortable on.

Having said that...yes horses that are shorter and stockier are able to carry a higher weight ratio.

I think he "looks" better on Trace, but probably Kacey could carry him as well--all depends which horse is working better with him.
