Not tolerating pergolide
« on: May 05, 2018, 06:46:06 pm »

My horse has developed loose stool with pergolide. I even cut him down to 1/4 tab every other day. Anyone have any experience with this? He is only on hay. Developed aversion to his multivitamin. I may try a different one. I may try a probiotic to help keep going with pergolide. I've heard of chaste berry but results weren't great in studies. He really looks and acts good. He was real thin with pergolide. I just worry about all the problems he can develop off of it.

I tried Peroglide with a horse I used to own and he colicked so I didn't give him another dose for a couple of weeks and he colicked again. I did find on one of the forums that some horses will not tolerate it.

Did you find a way to get your horse to tolerate the pergolide?

Sorry! Forgot to update. He never tolerated it, even a tiny dose every few days. I had forgotten about an old medication that I actually had a horse on years ago. It is cyproheptadine. It is in a tasty powder that he eats right up so it is easier than pergolide. I am not testing levels, but I think he drinks less and his weight is good. He was really skinny on pergolide.
