I use always. Mine is a gsrmij 401 I think. Wrist.  I have had 2 hashed gsrmijs before.

Avery easy one to learn and not expensive is the Garmin e-trex series.

They are wonderful to have.  If you are riding in new area's, I would not be with out one.  Best suggestion I would say is to stop into a store that sells them and let them know how much knowledge you have to use them.  That way you won't get one that is too complicated to start with.
