Audiobooks?
« on: January 29, 2018, 01:49:18 pm »

I'm going to be spending a bit of time in the car driving by myself (well, with the dogs) and was thinking having a couple of audio books on standby might be a good idea.  So I went in search of audio books that I could download to my phone and listen to in the car.

Subscriptions?  All subscriptions?  And the websites are REALLY thin on information.  Audible is run by Amazon, Audiobooks appears to be run by google.  Same price, same lack of information on the websites.  Best I can tell, they try to rope you in with a 30 day free trial which includes 1 book, you can buy additional "book credits", and if you subscribe, you get 1 free book per month.

I'm traveling 4+ hours each way this weekend, and then not again until March, but I'll be going to dog shows 3 weekends in a row in March.  Of course, we have airport security & customs to deal with in February, which takes FOREVER.

So, does anyone subscribe to any audio book website?  Like it?  Hate it?

Depends what you like to read.  But I download mysteries from Librivox.  These are out of copyright books, read by volunteers.  I like mysteries because I have to pay attention to the clues and that keeps me awake and paying attention.
There are a LOT of other genres, but if you do like mysteries, I will go through what I have listened to lately.  I know Anna Katherine Green is a favorite of mine.

Anyway these are all free because they are 50-75 years old.

Thanks!  I downloaded the Librivox app.  I do like mysteries, so any recommendations are welcome Kysa.

Judy, I'll check out Barnes & Nobel also.

When I commuted an hour to work everyday I listened to audio books from the library.  Probably 1-2 per week.  They were free!
