Connie, I always tie my horses long enough that they can lay down.  They also need to get their face in a bucket of water.  I tie so that the clip is about four inches above the ground when hanging there.
And there is a learning curve for the horse.  I always tie a new horse overnight at HOME, and where I can see and hear them.  When they are comfortable overnight on a high line, then I take them camping.

Is Speedy too young to be ridden all day?  Was wondering why you don't ride him 100% of the time and switch between Fargo and your other horse if they do okay alone.  That way you could tire Speedy out quite a bit, and a couple days into a trip leave him alone for 10 minutes and see what he does (even if it's while you or your husband walk the other 2 horses just out of sight)...and then 15 minutes, and then 20, etc.

You could also put a patience pole in at home and work with him on this.

KCKC or Anyone. Have you Used the Ground Tie System?
« Reply #19 on: September 03, 2017, 08:47:09 pm »

Have any of you used the ground tie system?  That would have been Heaven for our horses this last weekend.  Poor things had to stay in a grassless plot with only dry hay where they could stare longingly out at the "Candy Store" of lush green meadow.  I felt so sorry for them!

However, Speedy, this weekend's "wild, untouched mustang" (exaggeration but not much!!!!), would it be able to hold him especially if he is there alone?  Anybody used this thing on a bad boy horse?  Thanks.
