If you were going to splurge on just one thing...
« on: January 29, 2016, 08:50:45 am »

...what would it be? With shedding and mud season just around the corner, I'm thinking my splurge would be a horse vacuum. Does anyone use one of these and if so, what one do you have? I might just splurge and do this if it's not too expensive.

Fencing.....new fencing.  Most of my horse pastures are places m husband abandoned for his cows because the fencing would not keep his cows in.  I have cobbled it together, and it mostly keeps the horses in.  But it would be nice to completely replace some of the fencing with brand new.  Not sure that will happen anytime soon, but I can wish!

I've worked for a lot of farms that had the electro groom, floor model.  Also used it to vacuum cobwebs down, it has rear wheels, can drag it along.  It's an excellent product.

I have the small horse vacuum from HORSE.com. It has a pathetically small bag and clogs up really fast. So I never use it as a vacuum. What I can do is put the hose on the exhaust and use it to BLOW off the dust and dirt after I curry. It really does a good job getting it clean all the way down to the skin.

When I groomed for the Morgan show barn we had the big blue Electrogroom professional livestock vacuum. They worked amazing, but last I looked they were about a grand  $$.

I think I would get a trailer. But now I want a vacuum again. I had one years ago and I loved it. The horses all liked it and it saved me breathing in a lot of dust and hair. I don't remember what mine was, maybe a vac n blo? It was like 15 or 20 years ago and I think it was red and $175

We have used a shop vac several times when it was to cold to bathe & there was a parade going on. Worked great.

As a splurge? Fencing, which we have it all, including posts, just needs put up.

Very nice Melissa. Well I guess if I could afford it I would but horse property next to the preserve and river. Million dollar properties so that isn't goin to happen.

Real splurge, maybe New buckets. The ones I have are old and pretty worn so their feed mixture sticks. Nice new ones would be nice but not necessary so it is a splurge.

Splurge would be an indoor riding arena like Kysa's!

An air compressor works great for blowing out dirt. There are attachments for that and then just adjust the pressure on the compressor so it's not too high. The horses get used to it pretty quickly.

A BarnMaster Barn.

Smaller-scale splurge? A wash rack/stall in the barn with heated water.

If money was no object? I nice big indoor arena with more stalls. Of course, I'd need a better/bigger property to put it on unless I did a serious demo and re-arrange of what I have.
